Breast Screening

The lifetime risk of a person developing breast cancer is 1 in 8: this means that 1 in every 8 women may develop breast cancer at some time in their life.

The majority of breast cancers (81%) occur in women over the age of 50. Breast cancer is very rare indeed in women during their teens and early twenties and is uncommon in women under the age of 35.

Breast screening is offered by the NHSE National Screening program: you can find out more at the NHS website.
