Non-emergency patient transport
If you need transport to a medical appointment then you can book by calling 0345 425 0050 (local rate). The booking line is open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday and they aim to answer calls within 20 seconds. The service is managed by the West Midlands Ambulance Service.
When you book please provide the following information:
- Name
- Date of birth
- NHS Number
- GP name and practice address
- Date and time of appointment
- Collection and destination addresses including post codes
- Details of your medical and mobility needs
Each time you ring you will be taken through the eligibility criteria questions for them to gain an understanding of your medical and transport needs. Cancer and renal dialysis patients will be assessed at various intervals throughout their treatment.
Once your booking is complete you be offered the option of a mobile phone text reminder and on the way messages.
Community Car Scheme
This is a volunteer car scheme that is available in our area. It provides a lifeline for those who have difficulty accessing public transport.
The scheme is operated by Cheshire Community Action in the Chester, Crewe and Nantwich areas and has over 30 volunteer drivers.
Journeys cover health appointments (including to hospitals), trips to the shops and visiting friends and relatives. (www.cheshireaction.org.uk).
The cost of each journey is £2.50 which will cover the first 5 miles, then 50p per mile thereafter.
For medical appointments (including GP appointments) the driver can wait up to 40 minutes and this will be classed as a wait and return.

Blue Badges, Bus Passes and Concessionary Travel Passes
Blue badges can be applied for online on the Cheshire West and Chester Council website.
Concessionary travel passes can be applied for on the Cheshire West and Chester Council website.

Malpas Community Bus Service
This is a community bus service that can be used for registered community groups. This service is not for individual use. There is an initial registration fee of £25 and a minimum day rate of £20 plus £1 per mile. Transport must be pre-booked on 07522 896573.
